There are two sides to the coin that is Caraval:
The latter half is gripping: as magical as promised, full of twists and peppered with enough tender moments to help you root for the characters.
The first half is slow, dull slog through the mud with the soggy cardboard character of Scarlett.
Three sisters, three deadly secrets, and zero plot progress.
Tragically, the crows are symbolic. But it’s still a great book.
