Another month, another series of New Book Tuesdays. Annnnd those weird outlier release dates, too. Anyways: books.
Well, it’s May.
I’ve updated Find Book By Author! I, uh, didn’t realize it was getting on five months without doing that.
Fun fact: I went a whole damn month without posting a single review. Which was the exact opposite of what I intended for April, ironically enough. I was going to catch up on reviews during April. Post regularly and have a sexy stockpile.
This Month’s Releases
We’ve got a ton of Adult/General Science Fiction and Fantasy releases, another ton of LGBT+ releases, and like, five YA SFF books. Huh. Odd.
Young Adult/New Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction Releases:
Thoughts on May 2021’s YA SFF releases:
— Two books are both golden-ish and have close-ups of swords on them. In the same month. And the same week. Bold.
— “of Feather and Steel” is the coolest title. Go ahead, add it to the end of everything. Makes it better, right? The Knight of Feather and Steel. The Palace of Feather and Steel. The Blade of Feather and Steel.
— Kind of a small release pool for YA SFF this month?

Adult/Gen Fantasy and Science Fiction Releases:
Thoughts on May 2021’s Adult SFF releases:
— Not a small pool for Adult SFF releases at all, holy crap.
— I received the first two books in Chronicles of the Bitch Queen by K.S. Villoso (which have v cool titles, look them up!) for Christmas, and my intent was to read them and be prepared for The Dragon of Jin-Sayeng‘s release. That did not happen.
— Scars of Cereba has such a cool fucking title I bought the first book in the duology to check it out.
— Djèlí Clark’s Ring Shout was one of the reviews I meant to finish writing last month. Spoiler: That did not happen. Still going to check out his Dead Djinn Universe soon, though!
— I have Zen Cho’s Royal Sorcerer series, annnnd, you guessed it! Haven’t gotten around to reading it. And yet, I’m still probably going to buy Black Water Sister.
— Three titles have “Zero” in them.

Thoughts on May 2021’s LGBT+ releases:
— You can tell Pride is— oh my god. Next month. Next month??? Already??? What the fuck. Anyway, you can tell Pride is next month because rainbow capitalism is alive and well with publishers pushing out their books ahead of time.
— I almost missed adding Some Girls Do. I forgot to shelve it for May on Goodreads whenever I was shelving things. Whoops.
— Aetherbound has such low ratings but that cover is so neat…
— How to Find a Princess is apparently a sapphic Anastasia retelling! The Anastasia story is always so odd to me. It’s intriguing: the myth of the lost princess is a fertile ground for storytelling. But it’s so historically recent and the actual event is hideously violent? I mean, I’m not too conflicted: the animated movie’s soundtrack has lived rent-free in my head for two decades.
— Hard Reboot = giant robots? You KNOW this gal likes her mecha.
— Sage and King was inspired by BBC’s Merlin! Which I tried so hard to watch. I understand why people like it, but I hated how hypocritical the whole thing was to its female characters, and also, using the same gimmick every episode for—what was it? Five seasons?—grew old. The storyteller in me wants to see all the complications that happen after the secret comes out!
— I actually remembered to mention the specific LGBT+ rep in each book down below this month! 🥰
